Blackhawks Have Been on Wrong Side of Multiple Rare 3 Goal Comebacks in Stanley Cup Final

It is very rare for a team to come back from a three goal deficit in the Stanley Cup Final and win. It has only been done seven times in NHL history after the Edmonton Oilers dug themselves out of a 3-0 hole to defeat the Florida Panthers in overtime.

Unfortunately for some Chicago Blackhawks fans who were watching and old enough to remember, the Blackhawks were on the wrong side of seeing a three goal lead disappear. While it happened to the Oilers by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, the time it was pulled off prior to that was against the Blackhawks by the Pittsburg Penguins in 1992. Pittsburgh ended up winning the series.

The Oilers had it happen to them one previous time, but so did Chicago. Not many are still alive to remember the Montreal Canadiens erasing a three goal deficit to the Blackhawks in 1944, the third time it had ever happened in a Stanley Cup Final.

This comeback in the final happens an average of once every 15 years, so there is a chance we don't see another one for a long time. But anything can happen as this season and many others have shown us.

The action between the Oilers and Panthers in this Stanley Cup Final have proven that the two best teams made it to the end. From the perspective of the Blackhawks and fans, this is the level the young group hopes to reach sooner rather than later.
