It would not be particularly surprising if the Chicago Blackhawks looked to add to their roster before the 2025-26 season begins. They have a lot of cap space to work with, so it would be understandable if they were open to bringing in a proven player if they could help them beyond the 2025-26 season.
One player who the Blackhawks have been connected this off-season is Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues, as the Fourth Period reported that they are among the clubs linked to him. With the Panthers having limited cap space, Rodrigues' name has been floating around the rumor mill, and he could be a fantastic addition for the Blackhawks.
When looking at Chicago's roster, Rodrigues could slot very nicely in their top nine if acquired. This is because the 32-year-old is capable of playing all three forward positions. Furthermore, due to his offensive skill, he would be an obvious choice for the Blackhawks' power play if acquired, too. With this, he would give the Blackhawks an impactful and versatile veteran forward to work with.
Another very appealing factor about Rodrigues is that he has an affordable $3 million cap hit until the completion of the 2026-27 season. Due to this, the two-time Stanley Cup champion would be more than just a one-year rental for the Blackhawks if acquired, which would be a nice plus.
In 82 games this past season with the Panthers, Rodrigues recorded 15 goals, 17 assists, and 32 points. This was after he recorded back-to-back 39-point seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24 and had a career-high 43 points during the 2021-22 campaign. Thus, there is no question that he is capable of providing solid secondary offensive production, which is something the Blackhawks undoubtedly could use more of.
