Fans of Blue Bloods were disappointed when their favorite police procedural was canceled in 2024 after airing for 14 seasons. But good news followed bad when CBS picked up Boston Blue (working title), a spinoff focused on Donnie Wahlberg's character, Danny Reagan. Recently, Wahlberg and Walking Dead's Sonequa Martin-Green announced at a CBS press briefing that the actress will also star in the series.
Walhberg will star and executive produce the series, which follows his character as he moves to the Boston Police Department. Variety reports that Martin-Green will join the series as Lena Peters, " the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family" who partners with Wahlberg's Reagan. (There have been conflicting reports for Martin-Greene's character's name.)
Below, the duo talk to Extra TV during CBS Fest ’25 about Boston Blue and share their excitement about the series.
Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis serve as showrunners for the upcoming spinoff. The pair previously worked together writing another popular police procedural, S.W.A.T. and will excutive produce Boston Blue with Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed.
CBS has revealed that the spinoff will air during the Friday 10 p.m. ET timeslot, which is the same that Blue Bloods previously held.
