'You win with guys like Bo' — Bo Melton's selflessness continues to impress the Packers' coaching staff at training camp

As the Green Bay Packers continue throughout the training camp process, no player has received more praises from pretty much the entire coaching staff than Bo Melton, and for good reason.

Melton has always been a coach's dream in Green Bay. A player willing to do it all while doing all of the little things the right way.

Those players are "glue players" and the kind of players you want to keep around in the building, no matter what it takes because just having that player in the building makes your team better.

So, when the Packers added new talent to the wide receiver room, things naturally got crowded at the position. Those additions raised the level of competition for a player like Melton, who's future with the team all of a sudden looked murkier.

But, the Packers couldn't afford to eventually cut a player like Melton if it came to it and came up with a unique solution that would benefit the WR room, Melton's future with the team, and another position of need.

Last week, general manager Brian Gutekunst announced that the Packers were officially going to move Melton to cornerback, a position he certainly has the talent to play at. Over the last few days of practice, Melton began working with defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and the rest of the defense.

"I credit Bo. I don’t think there are many guys in this league who are just gonna be — 'Hey, what do you think about doing this?' 'Yeah, I’ll do it. Whatever’s best for the team.' How many guys nowadays are gonna do that?" Hafley told reporters on Wednesday. "I don’t think there’s many of them. So, chances are, the guy’s gonna succeed. And I believe in him, and I’m excited about where this could go. But at the same time, I think everybody’s gotta kinda just — alright, let’s slow down, everything’s not gonna look perfect. But I was fired up. I love the guy. You win with guys like Bo."

Learning a new position and altering the fundamentals is going to take some time for Melton, but hearing the praises this early from his new coordinator is telling. He still has all the intangibles that can translate to the CB position such as his speed, intelligence, and overall team-first mindset.

"He's still Bo Melton. He's fast. He's got a smile on his face. He's got an incredible attitude," special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia said. "We think he's going to become an elite special teams player, he was big for us a year ago. He's really just the ultimate team player right now."

In 10 days, the Packers will play in the first preseason game against the New York Jets, giving Melton just over a week to continue mastering his new position before showing what he can do in a live game environment. Given what's been said of him so far, one should expect him to ball out.
