Boston Bruins Linked To $8.4 Million Top NHL Free Agent

There are three big fish in this 2025 NHL Free Agency cycle. The first is Mitch Marner, who will end up being one of the most expensive signings in NHL history for one lucky team. The next is Sam Bennett, a proven champion yet to receive a real block buster deal. And the third is Vancouver Canucks’ Brock Boeser, who at 28-years-old has never played for another club. The Boston Bruins are supposedly in the market for Boeser’s elite talents.

Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli was the first to predict the marriage, and since then a NESN’s writer Kayla Gregoire has made some sense of it.

“Boeser’s production would be a boost to Boston’s lineup and would also bring consistency to the Bruins’ lineup,” Gregoire wrote. “His shot is what jumps out about him, allowing him to be a goal scorer from anywhere on the ice.”

A man of Boeser’s talents drives a pretty penny. Boeser just finished his third and final season on a three year, $19.95 million deal amounting to $6.65 million a year. This means he’s due for a raise.

“He is projected to sign a contract around the six years, $8.46 million per year range,” Gregoire concluded. “With the Bruins having some money to play around with in the salary cap, Boeser isn’t out of the question.”

Is The Bruins Stanley Cup Window Still Open

According to Spotrac.com, the Boston Bruins are more than $26 million under cap entering the 2025-26 season. This means they have the sixth most available cap space in the league. The vibe around the league is that the Bruins are no longer in ‘win now’ mode, but is that really the case?

The team still employs one of the best goal scorers in the NHL, David Pastrnak. And with six more years left on his deal, we have no reason to assume he’s going anywhere. Pair this up with one of the leagues most expensive goal tenders in Jeremy Swayman, and the Bruins have a core to build around.

Young center Pavel Zacha has two years left on his deal as well, securing one big name in the free agent pool and using the remaining 20 or so million dollars to fill out a couple lines could put this team right back in contention.

Other Free Agents Worth Considering

If big names are your thing, Dallas Stars’ Mikael Granlund might be your guy. The 33-year-old forward was acquired by the Stars at the deadline. His current contract is a $5 million AAV, and the next one should be expected to be a little bit north of that.

“Granlund had 21 points in 31 games for Dallas then nine in 16 playoff games while skating on the “Finnish Mafia” line with Mikko Rantanen and Roope Hintz,” ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski wrote. “Someone is probably going to overpay for Granlund, whose uptick in goal scoring has coincided with pending free agency. But he has produced points wherever he has played (Pittsburgh excluded).”

But if you’re looking for a young player at a great value who can grow with the organization , then the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Dante Fabbro is for you. Fabbro is just 26-years-old making only $2.5 million a year. He went from Nashville to Columbus last offseason and could be on the move once again.

“The Preds’ loss and the Jackets’ gain, as Fabbro had 26 points in 62 games, skating to a plus-23 with Columbus as Zach Werenski’s partner,” Wyshynski writes. “The underlying numbers reaffirm he was great on both ends of the ice. Obviously, a lot of that is playing with a Norris Trophy finalist, but Fabbro earned his time with Werenski.”
