Boston Bruins prospect Georgii Merkulov has once again had a strong season down in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. In 56 games, the 24-year-old forward has scored 14 goals and leads the team with 38 assists and 52 points.
What's encouraging about Merkulov's play is that he is only staying hot as we continue to inch closer to the end of the season. Over his last seven games with Providence, the Bruins prospect has one goal and seven points.
There is no question that Merkulov has good offensive upside, and he is only continuing to show this with his latest hot streak with Providence. With this, it is fair to wonder if he will get another shot with the NHL club before the season is over. With the Bruins losing seven straight games and their playoff hopes gone, there would be no harm in them calling him up at this stage.
Merkukov has one assist and a minus-1 rating in six games this season with Boston. Given how well he is playing in Providence, it will be interesting to see if he gets another chance on Boston's roster before the end of the season from here.
