Boston Bruins reportedly pushing hard to land No. 1 pick from Islanders in bold draft trade talks

Bruins eyeing top spot in 2025 NHL Draft; names like Pageau, Dobson, and the No. 7 pick all surfacing in aggressive trade discussions with New York.

Bruins Consider Draft Trade Strategies With This Eastern Conference Team

The Boston Bruins aren’t just looking to make a move at the NHL Draft, they’re trying to steal the show.

In a surprising turn, sources now say the Bruins have been in active talks with the New York Islanders about a massive trade that could send the No. 1 overall pick to Boston.

It’s a bold swing, but not out of character for GM Don Sweeney, who’s already made it clear he’s open to dealing Boston’s current pick at No. 7.

Boston exploring all options, especially up

Reports first surfaced via RG Media, pointing to a potential trade between the two Eastern Conference clubs involving the top pick.

The deal would reportedly include Boston’s No. 7 overall selection, plus an additional major piece, possibly a top-six forward or top-four defenseman.

According to RG Media, the Bruins and Islanders have engaged in trade talks potentially involving JG Pageau, Noah Dobson, and the 1st and 7th overall picks

The Bruins’ front office is said to be exploring every avenue to move into the top five. And if that proves out of reach, their backup plan is to use the No. 7 pick to add an NHL-ready player right away.

The Bruins goal is reportedly to move into the top five. If they are unsuccessful, they would like to use the 7th overall pick in a trade package that could get them a player for their lineup now.

Pageau and Dobson mentioned as possible targets

Two names have consistently come up in connection to the Bruins: Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Noah Dobson.

Pageau, 32, would provide instant depth down the middle. Meanwhile, Dobson, still just 25 and a restricted free agent, could become a key long-term piece on Boston’s blue line.

The Bruins have shown prior interest in both players, and it appears those conversations may be back on the table.

The James Hagens twist

There’s another wrinkle that may be pushing the Islanders to listen: James Hagens.

The Long Island native has been slipping in recent draft projections. While he was once considered a lock for the top five, some boards now list him as low as No. 8.

That opens the door for a calculated move, trading down to No. 7, where New York could still nab Hagens, while adding a veteran or another asset in return.

One source also feels that the Bruins and Islanders make a lot of sense as trade partners due to the slipping of Long Island native James Hagens in the latest draft rankings, who has fallen as low as 8 on some lists

For a franchise that loves local ties, that kind of opportunity could be too good to ignore.

Bruins not bluffing, something big is brewing

With draft day fast approaching, the Bruins seem locked in on doing something meaningful. Whether it’s leaping to the top of the board or leveraging their pick for immediate help, Boston is clearly looking to make noise.

I reported last week that Boston was one of the teams that has inquired about #Isles Jean-Gabriel Pageau. 7th overall (Boston’s pick) is probably as far as James Hagens would go. Good work here.

What comes next is anyone’s guess, but fans in Boston should brace  for fireworks. The Bruins are deep in trade talks, and they’re not wasting time.
