Boston Red Sox Use Historic Comeback To Power Them To 11-9 Win

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 11-9 this afternoon at home. Boston’s win was a historic one. They are the first team in the modern era to overcome four deficits including a 4+ run deficit and then win with a walk-off home run in the 9th inning. Boston overcame a 1-0 deficit, 6-5 deficit, 8-7 deficit, and 9-8 deficit this afternoon.

Center Fielder Ceddanne Rafaela clinched the win with the shortest walk-off home run(308 feet) of the Statcast era. Will Boston’s offensive success continue leading to wins on the diamond?

Boston Red Sox Season Summary

It has been a disappointing year for the Boston Red Sox. They are in fourth place in the American League East at 30-34. As was on display this afternoon, Boston’s offense is one of the league’s best. They are eighth in batting average, seventh in home runs, and sixth in runs scored. Designated Hitter Rafael Devers is leading the league in RBI.

The Red Sox have struggled on the mound this season. They are 19th in the league in ERA, 21st in WHIP, and 23rd in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Garrett Crochet has been tremendous. He is sixth in ERA, tied for the league lead in strikeouts, and 15th in opposing batting average.

Final Thoughts

Boston has a day off Thursday before heading on the road to begin a three-game set Friday against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox have a talented roster but have not played up to their potential in 2025. They will look to get it going sooner rather than later.
