Boston Unlikely to Move Jarren Duran Despite Heavy Interest from Padres

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran has been the headline of multiple trade rumors this season. As the team searches for starting pitching upgrades and looks to find a consistent first base, Duran is often touted as Boston’s top trade chip. Despite seeing a downtick in production from his 2024 All-Star campaign, Duran possesses a unique skillset every team covets.

His rare blend of speed and power makes him a fit on any roster, fueling the widespread interest in his services. What makes Duran even more appealing at the deadline is the three years of team control left on his current contract.

Being cheap, controllable, and productive is the most sought-after type of player. It is the primary reason the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, both teams looking to trade away expensive starting pitching, have been the most aggressive in their pursuit of Duran.

However, with Boston surging in the standings, the Red Sox are reluctant to trade Duran, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

“The Boston Red Sox have no plans to trade outfielder Jarren Duran at the deadline, rejecting the San Diego Padres’ offers, and are more likely to move him this winter,” wrote Nightengale.

While trading Duran could net the Red Sox almost any pitcher of their choosing at the deadline, there is no rush to move off the 28-year-old. Waiting until winter could expand the market for Duran, potentially leading to a bigger return package, while also giving the organization time to clarify its needs before engaging in serious trade discussions.
