For Game 5's matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper joined TNT's broadcast as a guest studio analyst.
This is not the first time Cooper has been associated with TNT this season. The 56-year-old won the 2024 Mr. TNT trophy, awarded to the player or coach who brings the best personality to the TNT broadcast.
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand was named Mr. TNT for the 2022-23 season. As a result, Cooper dethroned the future Hall of Famer.
While on the TNT broadcast, Cooper shared that he received a text from Marchand after winning the award. In it, Marchand said, "At least we have a trophy that Gretzky hasn't won."
Cooper sharing Marchand's playful jab toward Gretzky naturally made the analysts laugh. Gretzky, of course, is the NHL's greatest player of all time and picked up a plethora of awards throughout his remarkable career. However, unlike Cooper and Marchand, he does not have a Mr. TNT trophy on his resume.
Nevertheless, this is a humorous off-ice moment between two hockey figures that fans probably wouldn't have expected.
