Trouble may be brewing in the Bay Area.
Sources close to the San Francisco 49ers locker room say wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has voiced strong frustration over his usage in recent offensive schemes. While Aiyuk has kept his public comments limited, insiders report growing tension behind closed doors — particularly regarding his role in key red zone situations and third-down conversions.
“He’s earned the right to be a top option,” said one teammate anonymously. “But when he’s being treated like a secondary piece, that’s going to spark emotions — and it has.”
Aiyuk, who posted career-high numbers last season, reportedly clashed with members of the offensive staff during film review sessions. Several teammates stepped in to de-escalate what one source described as a “heated and uncomfortable moment.”
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the rumors earlier this week and declined to comment directly, saying only, “We’re focused on unity and execution.”
With training camp intensifying and expectations sky-high, the 49ers may need to do more than just fine-tune their playbook — they’ll have to manage egos and internal dynamics if they hope to keep their Super Bowl window open.
