BREAKING TRADE NEWS: The Avalanche Bring Back Stanley Cup-Winning Defenseman Erik Johnson!

The Colorado Avalanche, in what seems to be their final trade of the season, have acquired defenseman Erik Johnson from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward prospect Givani Smith.

Johnson was a part of the Avalanche roster that won the Stanley Cup in 2022. After the 2022-23 season, Colorado decided not to re-sign him, prompting him to sign with the Buffalo Sabres on the first day of 2023 free agency, July 1st. He was then traded before the 2024 trade deadline to the Flyers.

In 22 games with the Flyers this season, the 36-year-old defenseman has amassed 3 total points (1 goal/2 assists) and an average of 13:18 minutes of time on ice per game.

Erik Johnson earned the nickname "The Condor" during his time in Colorado. The Avalanche posted an eagle emoji before the team officially announced the trade.

The Bloomington, Minnesota native first joined the Avalanche back during the 2010-11 season, and until his last season with Colorado in 2023, he totaled 246 points with the team (68 goals/178 assists) in 717 games played. In his career, he's recorded 346 points (94 goals/252 assists) in 1,009 games played.
