While some New York Rangers fans may not know the name Brett Berard just yet, they will soon enough.

The Rangers had their first day of rookie camp today and Berard is the player who jumped out as most impressive.

Berard was drafted in the fifth round by the Rangers back in 2020, so there weren’t huge expectations on him to begin with, but over time he’s slowly started to make a name for himself.

Through Wednesday’s practice, Berard was explosive as he showed off his impressive speed and slick puck handling skills.

Despite standing at just 5’9’’, Berard seems to play fearlessly and his dynamic offensive game really jumped out through practice today.

During drills, the 22-year-old breezed past defenders and scored a couple of beautifully looking goals.

When the puck was on his stick, it was hard to keep your eyes off of him as he was just so exhilarating to watch.

Berard was also playing alongside Brennan Othmann for large parts of the practice, which is a sign that he is at the top of the team's prospect depth chart for rookie camp.

This past season, Berard spent his first full year with the Hartford Wolf Pack and he recorded 25 goals, 23 assists and 48 points in 71 games.

According to NHL.com’s Dan Rosen, Berard is a threat to steal a roster spot with the Rangers and his performance during rookie camp thus far should have coaches and team personnel enthused.
