ITV bosses have issued an update on the future of Britain's Got Talent as there has been some speculation over the show's contract.
Britain's Got Talent has reportedly been renewed for another three years - despite previous reports of the ITV talent show coming to the end of its contract with the broadcasters this year. However, ITV have confirmed that auditions are now open for the 2026 series and sources close to the show have shared that Simon Cowell and his judging panel will still be on screens until 2028.
While not yet confirmed by ITV, TVZone reported that sources suggested that the new deal is for more three series. With the current series, the last in the existing contract, continuing on ITV1 and ITVX every Saturday night until May 31, the new deal is set to begin next year with its nineteenth series.
The show first burst onto our screens in 2007 and has been an annual TV staple ever since. Hosted by Ant and Dec, the popular talent show has crowned 17 winners, who have all gone onto perform at the Royal Variety Show.
Britain's Got Talent has produced some of the nation's biggest household names including Diversity's Ashley Banjo, Pudsey the dog, actor and dancer George Sampson and Susan Boyle, just to name a few.
Susan Boyle, the 2009 runner-up, has sold 25 million records. Paul Potts, the first-ever winner, topped sales charts in 13 countries. Meanwhile dance group Diversity, the 2009 winner, have completed over 15 tours.
The 2024 series saw singer Sydnie Christmas crowned the winner, earning herself a life-changing £250,000 and a spot on the bill of the prestigious Royal Variety Performance, with this year's series yet to be wrapped up.
The latest series of Britain's Got Talent, which began in February, sees the return of judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli. Ant and Dec are also back as hosts of the ITV show.
However, fans were left fuming after ITV dropped the beloved talent show from its Saturday night lineup on 15 March. The network opted to broadcast the final Six Nations Championship match between France and Scotland instead, which kicked off at 8pm, clashing with BGT's regular timeslot.
