Mickey Callisto caused a bit of a 'divide' on the Britain's Got Talent panel on Saturday evening, as the Sunderland singer bid for a place in this year's final and got a mixed bag of comments from the judges.
All four judges on the ITV show were very impressed by Wearsider Mickey when he delivered an epic cover of Queen's Who Wants To Live Forever in his first audition; making it an absolute no brainer to put him through to the live knockout rounds. Unlike in previous years, when the semis have aired night after night in the same week; this time round they are being split across consecutive Saturdays.
With four spots in the Britain's Got Talent 2025 final already taken by acts who competed in the first two, Mickey was one of eight acts hoping to make it through this weekend. Before taking to the stage at a packed Hammersmith Apollo in London, a video played out on screen of Mickey back home in Sunderland, spending time with his 80-year-old nan, who he vowed to buy a stairlift for should he triumph on BGT.
Just like his audition, Mickey went with a Queen classic in a bid to land Bruno Tonioli's Golden Buzzer or top the public vote; this time going for Somebody to Love. However, while there is no doubt that Mickey once again gave his all; not all of the judges seemed entirely convinced. Bruno, while praising Mickey, said he 'didn't hit all the notes,' before Alesha Dixon told him she preferred his first audition, although she did single out the final note of the song as being a real highlight.
Being more positive, Amanda Holden, who was booed by the crowd earlier in the night, told him: "I did enjoy the performance this evening; I thought the top note at the end, like Alesha said, was fantastic. You did a really good job." Also siding with Mickey, whilst saying he was in 'two minds', Simon Cowell remarked: "You are a really, really good Freddie Mercury tribute act and, for that, it was really, really good.
Mentioning the huge amount of views Mickey's audition racked up online, Simon then added: "The public know what they're talking about. They like you and I think they're going to like you again."
