The singer went on to receive a golden buzzer for his performance
Britain's Got Talent viewers were confused by the dramatic finale on Saturday night, with many fans convinced the performance was a "set up." The auditions ended in style with a performance from Max Fox.
The singer was in the crowd watching the audition process as a fan when he decided to take his opportunity to catch Simon Cowell's attention. He shouted over to Simon as he said: "19 years I’ve tried to get in front of you and I’ve never ever had the chance.
"Can you give me one opportunity to show you what I've got?” Simon was impressed by the brazen approach and asked him to clarify it wasn't a set up before he agreed to give him his chance.
Max's performance ended the show as he wowed the crowd with a performance of My Way. The singer earned a standing ovation as the audience begged him to be sent through to the live shows.
Amanda Holden agreed with the shouts as she pressed the Golden Buzzer to send Max through. She said: "I'm just going to say, I've already pressed my golden buzzer, so I'm in a lot of trouble because that's my second golden buzzer!"
On Monday morning, Max appeared on ITV's This Morning to talk about his performance with hosts Josie Gibson and Andi Peters. The daytime TV presenters admitted they were "sceptical" about Max as they asked him if his appearance on the show was staged.
The singer was adamant his performance was not a set up as he explained: "I managed to get a seat three rows behind the judging panel. I turned around and asked three old dears behind me if I should ask Simon if I can sing and they said yeah, go for it."
He told the This Morning hosts: "It was not a set up. I get it with all these reality shows going round that people may not believe it, but I can tell you this was definitely not a set up and that's all I can say really."

Josie said: "I believe you, that's not the face of a liar", while Andi joked: "Thank god you were good." Max explained the producers had to wait around for an extra hour while they added his last minute audition to the end of the schedule.
The singer's rendition of Frank Sinatra's My Way was definitely worth the wait and wowed the judges. He explained his song choice: "It's very close to home, I sang it at my grandad's funeral, I sang it at my wedding to my husband. It's kind of followed me through my life."
Max said he was "almost" wrestled by security as he attempted to talk to Simon through the crowds. He explained Simon told them to "back off" as he wanted to give the singer a chance impress him.
Max explained: "I've always been a chancer my whole life, I've put myself on the line and risked everything. You need to put yourself out there because why not, you could only be told 'no'." He told Josie: "I've lived my whole life that way."
Fans took to social media following Max's appearance on the ITV show. Viewers are not fully convinced his performance was as spontaneous as he claimed it was. Taking to X, one wrote: "No way this wasn't set up... anyone that would shout or heckle Simon would probably be escorted out.. not given a golden buzzer."
More added to the conversation: "They keep asking him whether it was a set up is just making it more obvious that it was set up" and "Oh come on #thismorning we didn't believe this on Saturday night and we still don't believe it!"
