Although the bar bears Jax Taylor's name, Brittany shared why she should get some of the credit during The Valley After Show.
Jax Taylor announced that he's parting ways with his Los Angeles bar Jax’s Studio City on July 26, but prior to that, Brittany Cartwright had opened up about her involvement with the business on The Valley After Show.
The topic arose as Brittany, Jax, and their castmates were discussing Zack Wickham's decision to redecorate the bar (which was briefly renamed "Britt's") in celebration of Brittany on Season 2, Episode 9 of The Valley. Jax was naturally less than pleased with the bar makeover, which he dubbed "childish," but Zack argued, “Let’s be real: Brittany is the brains behind it [and] the money backer. She really did a lot."
Brittany then went on to share more about her role in Jax’s Studio City, including the work she did there while separated from Jax and throughout the period he was in a mental health facility. As she put it, "I was working hard to keep it afloat while Jax was away in rehab. Like, I was still hosting nights and stuff there. And I just thought it was very sweet that my friends, like, recognized that.”
Jax himself previously praised Brittany for her contributions to the business, explaining in an August 2023 podcast episode, “I know in the past I said that owning a bar is basically a marriage killer, but the difference is [Brittany is] involved just as much as I am. We have 100% say in what is going on, and she is doing the decorating.”
Added Brittany on the same episode, “It is called Jax’s, but it is mine too."
Brittany claimed on The Valley After Show that she did put her own money into the bar, but she "never got a dime back."
“I paid the mural artist. I paid for the neon signs. I paid for a lot of the decorations in there. I paid for every single plant. The succulent wall. Every vase. Everything," she said. "And I never got paid back for it, ever."
Brittany also alleged that she "never made a cent off of 'Mamaw’s Beer Cheese' there."
As a result, she later asked Jax to take it off the menu. “I own 'Mamaw's Beer Cheese,’” Brittany shared on the April 18 episode of her podcast When Reality Hits. “I have it trademarked, that I pay for, and everything else.
Jax officially launched Jax's Studio City in October 2023 as part of a partnership with a neighboring business, Rocco’s Tavern. “I’m very fortunate to where I don’t have to put up a bunch of money; I have three partners that are footing the bill,” he said on The Valley Season 1, Episode 3. “I personally haven’t invested anything.”
Jax issued a statement about his decision to part ways with the bar on July 26, which read, "I’ve made the decision to end my partnership with Jax’s. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. Right now, my focus is on my sobriety and mental health, and staying connected to my bar is no longer in line with the priorities I’ve set for myself and the life I’m working towards.”
