With a great rookie season from Bo Nix at quarterback, the Denver Broncos are in a great position to build around their young quarterback with talent. His cheap rookie deal paves the way for veterans to sign deals with Denver.
In a recent report from Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post, star wide receiver Courtland Sutton provided a positive update on the ongoing extension talks between his representation and the Broncos.
In the report, Sutton says, "My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up here in the front office, and I think it's working in the right direction..."
An extension with Sutton would lock down a major part of the Broncos offense. Sutton returning on an extension should be a priority for the front office, and a projected deal would likely be around $20 million per year, at least a $6.3 million per year raise.
Sutton is set to be a free agent in 2026, and if he leaves, he'll be one of the best wide receivers available on the market. Losing Sutton would be a heavy blow for the Broncos offense.
The former Pro Bowl receiver is coming off an impressive first season with Nix at quarterback. Sutton hauled in 81 receptions on 135 targets for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns. It was the second-most yards and touchdowns he's had in a season and the most receptions and targets he's had in a year.
Across his seven-year career with Denver, Sutton has 5,340 receiving yards, 32 touchdowns, and 379 receptions. He's 29 years old and will be 30 once the new extension begins.
Keeping Nix and Sutton together is key for the Broncos' success going forward. This report is great news in the process of getting an extension done for one of the most important upcoming Broncos free agents.
