Broncos Star Patrick Surtain II Fulfills Promise to Young Fan Battling Cancer

Patrick Surtain II Looking to Build Off of Impressive Rookie Season

It started with a letter.

9-year-old Liam, a lifelong Denver Broncos fan battling leukemia, wrote to his favorite player, Patrick Surtain II, during a difficult round of treatment:

“If I ever beat this thing, can we watch a Broncos game together?”

Weeks passed. Then came a knock at the hospital door.

Dressed in orange and navy, Surtain walked in with two jerseys, a signed helmet, and a simple message:

“You already beat it, little man — now let’s go celebrate.”

True to his word, Surtain later brought Liam onto the sidelines during training camp, introduced him to teammates, and even ran a light drill with him on the turf — helmet and all.

“I’ve never seen Liam smile like that,” said his mom. “Patrick didn’t just give him time. He gave him hope.”

Teammates say this isn’t new for Surtain. He’s known for quietly visiting local schools, children’s hospitals, and food drives — always off-camera, always sincere.

“I’m here because people showed up for me,” Surtain later said. “Now I get to show up for them.”
