The Denver Broncos' defense rated out as one of the best in the NFL last season.
Arguably, their biggest surprise? Safety Brandon Jones, who played in the box more under his rookie contract with Miami, but showed his versatility, setting career highs in every major category for a defensive back. Including a team-leading 115 tackles.
According to the Denver Broncos lead writer, Aric DiLalla, Jones was Pro Football Focus' third-best safety in the NFL last season, and now he is looking to improve even more.
"Overall, I want to grow in every aspect. I don't think you can ever be too good at one thing," Jones said. "I'm just excited to continue to do what I can do and be a great teammate and leader for this defense."
The former third-round pick in 2020 did not shy away from praising Denver's elite defense, which added multiple difference makers in the San Francisco 49ers' Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga.
"The sky is the limit," Jones said.
DiLalla says the ex-49ers safety Hufanga can fill a similarly versatile role as Jones, who believes they have already built a strong bond in a short amount of time.
"We can just have a lot of freedom and feel comfortable with whoever goes down in certain situations. We have a lot of faith and trust in each other. I think that goes a long way," Jones said.
With a starting defensive backfield comprised of Jones, Hufanga, Pat Surtain II, Jahdae Barron, and Riley Moss, the Broncos are poised to improve on what was already a very good unit.
