Browns Lose Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah For the 2025 NFL Season

The Cleveland Browns have placed linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah on the PUP list for the 2025 season. It’s the same neck injury that cut his 2024 season short. Owusu-Koramoah’s absence will be a significant blow to the Browns. However, the Browns could be in a decent position because of their recent draft pick, UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah Injury Details

The injury occurred on October 27th, 2024, during a game against the Baltimore Ravens. Owusu-Koramoah sustained a severe neck injury after colliding with running back Derrick Henry. JOK was immediately taken off the field and sent to the hospital for evaluation. He regained all mobility in his extremities. The severity of this injury has prolonged the recovery process, resulting in JOK being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Browns Official Statement

“Jeremiah’s health is of the utmost importance to us, and although he has made progress towards recovery, we’ve made the decision to place him on Reserve/PUP, which means he will not play football during the 2025 season,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement. “Jeremiah has the full support of our team, and we expect him to continue to be a part of the organization even though he will not return to the field this year. We will not make any predictions on Jeremiah’s football future. Still, we note that he’s in good spirits and will continue to take the advice of the world-class medical experts who will continue to guide his progress and recovery.”

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah Statement

“To the Cleveland Browns fanbase and my supporters worldwide, thank you for your patience in my silence. From day one, you welcomed me not just as a player, but also as a brother and a young man with purpose. I’m grateful to the Browns organization for its full support and the world-class doctors who guided me through recovery. While I won’t suit up this season, I’m focused on what I can control—my healing, my mindset, and my faith. The body may rest, but the calling never sleeps. I’ve given my heart to this game. I don’t know what’s next, but I’ll continue trusting my medical team, serving the community, and backing my brothers on the field.”

Cleveland Browns Career

After making his only Pro Bowl throughout his career, the former No. 52 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft inked a three-year, $39 million agreement with Cleveland in August. Along with a career-high 3.5 sacks and two interceptions, JOK led the Browns in tackles 101 and tackles for loss 20 in that 2023 campaign. Since Luke Kuechly did so in 2018, it was the most tackles ever recorded by a player who recorded 20 tackles for loss.

Conclusion

The Browns spent their 33rd overall draft pick on a UCLA linebacker, Carson Schwesinger. At first thought, the pairing of Schwesinger and JOK would be fun to watch. However, the team will rely heavily on other players Devin Bush, Jordan Hicks and now the rookie. Schwesinger may play a larger role than initially expected. Schwisnger was one of three players in the FBS to record 90 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions last season. Time will tell what the potential of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and the new-look Browns defense can be.
