Bruce Cassidy confirmed to join Team Canada in Olympics

Bruce Cassidy is officially heading to the 2026 Winter Olympic Winter Games.

On Monday, the Vegas Golden Knights head coach was named as an assistant coach for Team Canada for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.

Cassidy is the third name confirmed to represent the Golden Knights at the Olympics, with forwards Jack Eichel and Jonas Rondbjerg already selected to represent the United States and Denmark, respectively.

Team Canada’s coaching staff has already been confirmed to be the same as this year’s 4 Nations Face-Off. Cassidy will be an assistant under Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, and will be joined by former Golden Knights coach Pete DeBoer, Philadelphia Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet and Hockey Canada vice president of hockey operations and former Golden Knights assistant Misha Donskov. The staff helped guide Team Canada to a gold medal at the 4 Nations Face-Off, defeating Team USA 3-2 in overtime.

Under Cassidy, the Golden Knights have gone through arguably the best stretch of their short history.

Bruce Cassidy earns an Olympic-sized honor for next season

In Cassidy’s three seasons at the helm in Vegas, the Golden Knights have put together their two best seasons in franchise history (111 points during the 2022-23 season, 110 points in 2024-25). He also helped guide the team to their first-ever Stanley Cup victory in 2023, defeating the Florida Panthers in the Final in five games. Cassidy has been the voice the Golden Knights have needed in their locker room, and much of their recent success can be attributed to the change in the leadership behind the bench.

Cassidy now becomes the latest name who will be headed to Italy from Vegas, and he will certainly not be the last.
