Boston trades away a prospect
The Boston Bruins were active on Friday, acquiring defenseman Victor Soderstrom from the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced on X on Friday. The Bruins sent defenseman prospect Ryan Mast and a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Blackhawks in return.
Soderstrom was a first-round draft pick by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2019 NHL Draft. The right-shot defenseman spent his first four years in Arizona, recording one goal and ten assists in 53 games.
After his four seasons with Arizona, he opted to play the 2024-25 season in the Swedish Hockey League with Brynäs IF. In 49 games, he tallied nine goals and 28 assists, grabbing the Börje Salming Trophy as the SHL’s top defenseman.
The blueliner is set to be a restricted free agent this summer, meaning the Bruins have to sign him to a new contract.
With the trade, Boston loses Mast who was a sixth-round pick for the Bruins during the 2021 NHL Draft. He skated in 37 games for the Providence Bruins during the 2024-25.
