Bruins Add 28-Goal Scorer to Bolster Offense in New Trade Pitch

Boston Bruins

Trade idea has Bruins acquiring Martin Necas.

The Boston Bruins are looking to be a playoff team again this season, and if that’s the case, they will need to add more scoring to their lineup.

Heavy.com has a trade idea that would see the Bruins acquire Martin Necas from the Colorado Avalanche in a blockbuster deal.

Bruins acquire:

  • Martin Necas

Avalanche acquire:

  • Pavel Zacha
  • 2027 first-round pick (Florida)

The proposed deal would be a blockbuster as Colorado and Boston would swap NHL forwards who could both use a change of scenery, while the Bruins give up a first-round pick they got in the Brad Marchand deal.

The Bruins would acquire Necas, who was part of the Mikko Rantanen blockbuster trade last season. He’s entering the final year of his two-year, $13 million deal with the Avalanche. However, his name has come up in trade talks as he reportedly didn’t like being in Colorado. Necas would add some much-needed offense to the Bruins’ lineup and be a top-line player for Boston. He recorded 28 goals and 56 assists for 83 points last season, which were career highs.

In return, the Bruins would give up a first-round pick and Zacha, who would help replace Necas in Colorado’s lineup. Zacha has two years left on his four-year, $19 million deal, so the Avs would get some stability as Necas would likely walk in free agency. He recorded 14 goals and 33 assists for 47 points in 82 games last season.

Necas Wasn’t Happy With the Avalanche

The Carolina Hurricanes traded Necas to the Avalanche mid-season, as he was supposed to help replace the void of Rantanen.

However, despite having success offensively, Necas didn’t fit in, and his name has come up in trade rumors, according to Nick Kypreos.

“After the Avalanche moved Rantanen because of how difficult they perceived contract extension talks to be going, how much patience will they have with Necas — not a homegrown player or superstar talent — if negotiations on an extension start slowly this July? There was a sense Necas wasn’t overly thrilled with his experience in Colorado and that he wants to explore other options,” Kypreos wrote.

If Necas does want a big payday, the Avalanche would be wise to flip him and could get two years of Zacha from the Bruins as part of the trade.

Bruins Open to Trading Zacha

Boston was one of the worst teams in the NHL last season and is hoping to compete for a playoff spot next season.

However, the Bruins could also trade away from their roster to add talent in a hockey trade. One player Boston is open to trading is Zacha, as the Bruins have explored the idea of trading him.

“The Bruins explored the trade market on Zacha during the season and there is belief out there that Boston is looking, again, at moving him,” Pagnotta wrote. “His 10-team no-trade list turned into an eight-team list July 1, so he does have some say in where he ends up, if dealt. He has two years remaining on his contract.”

If the Bruins do trade Zacha, they likely would need to get NHL players back, as Boston wants to compete for a playoff spot next season.
