Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery made it clear that Fabian Lysell needs to pick up his play.
Boston Bruins top prospect Fabian Lysell had a disappointing first pre-season game for the Original Six club on Sunday (Sept. 22) against the New York Rangers. The 2021 first-round pick failed to record a shot during the matchup and had two turnovers. With Lysell looking to make the Bruins' opening night roster, this was not the kind of start he needed.
Now, Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery sent Lysell a big message while speaking to reporters, including WEEI's Scott McLaughlin, earlier today (Sept. 24):
"He needs to do a little more than he's done if he wants to make the Bruins."
With Lysell having a quiet first pre-season game, it is understandable that Montgomery is expecting more from the 2021 first-round pick. The Bruins have spots to fight for in their forward group, but Lysell must make a more significant impact if he hopes to get his first chance in the NHL.
Lysell is once again in the Bruins' lineup for tonight's matchup against the Washington Capitals. It will be interesting to see how he responds to Montgomery's message through his play from here.
