Bruins Forward Is Clear Contract Extension Candidate

The Bruins should consider extending this key forward.

2023 Player Ratings: A big step forward for Trent Frederic - Stanley Cup of Chowder

Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic seems to get better every season. This remained the case in 2023-24, as he posted new career highs with 18 goals, 22 assists, and 40 points in 82 games. He also took his physical game to a new level, recording a career-high 204 hits.

After a season like this, Frederic cemented himself as a key part of the Bruins' roster. He has given the Bruins a bit of everything, as he chips in offensively, plays a heavy game, and works virtually anywhere in their lineup. With this, he has big expectations heading into the 2024-25 season.

With Frederic being a crucial part of the Bruins' lineup, he is a clear contract extension candidate. The 2016 first-round pick is entering the final season of his current deal and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer if he does not get a new deal from the Bruins. Boston should look to avoid this.

Given Frederic's improved play and pending UFA status, he is set for a raise from his current $2.3 million cap hit. Thus, the Bruins certainly will need to consider that when discussing Frederic's next deal.

It will be very intriguing to see what happens with Frederic from here, but he certainly has made a case for himself to secure an extension.
