Bruins Have Easy Decision to Make With Jim Montgomery

The Boston Bruins have an easy decision to make with their bench boss.

While speaking with reporters yesterday (Sept. 18), Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney discussed several topics regarding the club. One of the most notable involved Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery.

Sweeney shared that the Bruins and Montgomery have had extension talks:

"There has been talks, but I think Monty - well, I'm not going to speak for him, but I'm gonna guess he would take Brad's line of keeping that between us."

Given how well the Bruins have performed with Montgomery behind the bench, the Original Six club should opt to keep him around beyond this season.

In his first season with the Bruins in 2022-23, Montgomery led the club to a historic 65-12-5 record, which naturally led to them winning the Presidents' Trophy. In addition, he secured the Jack Adams Award for his efforts.

During this past season, he led a Bruins team that lost several big-name players the offseason before to a 47-20-15 record. With this, they also put together a better run in the playoffs, making it to the second round.

Since taking over as the Bruins' bench boss, Montgomery has a 112-32-20 record. With this, he has a strong case to a land an extension with the Bruins. We will need to wait and see if the talks between the coach and the team lead to one from here.
