Bruins Have Interesting Target in Panthers Tough Guy

The Bruins should consider pursuing this forward from the Panthers.

The Boston Bruins made a small move on Saturday, trading Jakub Lauko to the Minnesota Wild. While Lauko did not produce much offense with the Bruins, he certainly provided plenty of bite and physicality. The Bruins could miss his scrappiness in their bottom six, especially with the club looking to have a tougher identity.

As a result of this, it would not be a bad idea for the Bruins to try to bring in some sandpaper to their bottom six this summer. One player who could be an intriguing target is Ryan Lomberg.

At this time, the Panthers have not re-signed Lomberg. They have several other big-name players they are focusing on, so there certainly is a chance that Lomberg could hit the market on July 1. If he does, the Bruins should consider targeting him.

Lomberg would be a nice fourth-line or 13th forward option for the Bruins if signed. He showed with the Panthers that he can be quite impactful when playing at his highest level, as he plays a very heavy game, brings plenty of energy, and is known for his speed. These qualities could make him a nice pickup for the Bruins on a cheap short-term deal.

Lomberg, 29, appeared in 75 games this past season with the Panthers, recording five goals, two assists, 80 penalty minutes, and 179 penalty minutes. While it was a quiet year for him offensively, he has the potential to produce more. In 2022-23, he posted 12 goals and 20 points in 82 contests.
