Bruins Linked To Connor McDavid In New Oilers Trade Rumors

The Edmonton Oilers fell short again, and now the Connor McDavid watch begins.

For the second year in a row, McDavid and the Oilers saw their Stanley Cup hopes crushed by the Florida Panthers. A six-game loss in the 2025 Final has reopened questions about McDavid’s long-term future — and whether the NHL’s brightest star could eventually test free agency.

With one year left on his contract, the Oilers captain becomes eligible to sign an extension this summer. Edmonton can still lock him in, and history suggests superstars of McDavid’s stature rarely walk in their prime. But the longer he goes unsigned, the louder the rumors will get.

If he reaches the open market in 2026, suitors will line up with blank checks. One of the more intriguing possibilities could be the Boston Bruins, according to Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report.

Boston may not be in full rebuild mode, but they are firmly caught between contention and transition. Since the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, the Bruins have been searching for a true No. 1 center. Neither Casey Mittelstadt, Pavel Zacha nor Elias Lindholm fully fits that mold. McDavid clearly does.

The Bruins remain a major-market, Original Six franchise with an appetite for winning. Their window may be murky now, but if McDavid were to entertain a new chapter, Boston has enough appeal, and potential need, to at least get in the conversation.

For now, the Oilers still have time to re-sign their cornerstone. But as long as that deal remains unsigned, McDavid’s future will continue to dominate the offseason rumor mill.
