The Boston Bruins hosted the New York Islanders on Thursday, looking to snap their four-game skid and avoid going winless on their homestand.
Midway through the third period, the Islanders held a 2-0 lead, thanks to a first-period goal from defenseman Alexander Romanov and a second-period goal from center Kyle Palmieri.
But winger David Pastrnak gave the Bruins much-needed life, cutting the deficit to one with what seemed like a pass toward the net that found its way in from a tough angle. Center Pavel Zacha and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon picked up assists on the play, but the focus remained on Pastrnak.
With the goal, he extended his point streak to 16 consecutive games and reached his 800th career NHL point.
Following the 2-1 loss, the Bruins made a post on social media to react to their star's historical milestone.
"8️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ s for ," they wrote.
Pastrnak now has 31 goals and 42 assists, bringing his season total to 73 points. Despite Boston’s recent struggles, he continues to be an offensive threat for the team.
The 2014 first-round pick is in his 11th NHL season and has built an impressive resume as a four-time All-Star and former Rocket Richard Trophy winner.
Pastrnak and the Bruins will return to the ice on Saturday to face the Pittsburgh Penguins. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
