With the Boston Bruins losing six straight games and their season in danger of slipping away, trade rumors surrounding them have picked up. Trent Frederic is continuing to create trade chatter, but a new name has also emerged in them – Justin Brazeau.
On a recent episode of TSN Insider Trading, Darren Dreger named Brazeau as one of the Bruins who could be made available as the deadline gets closer. After that, Brazeau also made TSN's first trade bait board of the 2024-25 season at the No. 16 spot.
With Brazeau being a pending unrestricted free agent and the Bruins not looking like a definite playoff team, it is understandable that he is starting to create buzz in the rumor mill. However, given the step forward he has taken this season, they should seriously consider extending him before entertaining the idea of trading him.
Brazeau, 26, is currently tied with Charlie Coyle for third on the Bruins with 10 goals and has 18 points in 42 games. The 6-foot-6 winger has also provided a physical presence, recording 68 hits on the season thus far. With this, he has been a solid part of the Bruins' top nine, and it would not be bad if they kept him around. This is especially true if they can keep him around at an affordable price.
Since signing his first NHL contract with the Bruins last season, Brazeau has been a pleasant surprise. In 61 career NHL games with the Bruins, he has 15 goals, 25 points, and 111 hits.
It will be very interesting to see what the Bruins decide to do with Brazeau. Getting him signed to an extension would be excellent for the Original Six club if he continues to play well.
