It is time for the Bruins to bring back this Flames forward.
Before the start of the 2023-24 season, the Boston Bruins made the tough decision to place A.J. Greer on waivers. Without too much surprise, the gritty winger was claimed by the Calgary Flames, ending his tenure in Boston.
Greer gained plenty of respect from Bruins fans because of his hard-nosed style of play and work ethic. However, with the Bruins signing fellow tough guy and left winger Milan Lucic, it was understandable that Greer hit the waiver wire. However, things with Lucic, of course, didn't work out this season.
A.J. Greer
With the Bruins needing more toughness, they should consider reuniting with Greer if he hits the free-agent market on July 1.
Greer, 27, proved to be a nice depth piece for the Bruins during their historic 2022-23 regular season. In 61 games, the Quebec native had five goals, 12 points, 101 hits, and 114 penalty minutes. He also worked well in Calgary on their fourth line this year, recording six goals, 12 points, and 100 hits in 59 games. However, he was far more disciplined while maintaining his physical play, posting just 35 penalty minutes on the year.
Greer would be a worthwhile addition for the Bruins on a cheap one-year deal. He would give the Bruins another option for their fourth line and provide them with more of the sandpaper they need. At worst, he would be a good extra forward to have around when injuries arise.
