The Bruins are continuing to be connected to this Jets forward.
After a successful bridge year, the Boston Bruins are in a position to make some notable moves this summer. They have over $20 million of cap space to work and will surely take advantage of it.
One of the Bruins' top needs this offseason is to add a top-six scoring winger. There is no question that they need more scoring if they hope to be a more significant threat next season, and they have been connected to several notable players because of it.
Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers has been viewed by many as a potential trade target for the Bruins since word of his availability spread. According to The Fourth Period's latest Trade Watch Board, the Bruins are, in fact, among the clubs linked to Ehlers.
Ehlers, 28, makes sense as a target for the Bruins. As noted above, they are looking to bolster their top six, and landing the 2014 first-round pick would do just that. His stats this season effectively display this, as he posted 25 goals, 61 points, and a plus-27 rating in 82 games. He has also scored at least 20 goals in seven of his nine NHL seasons.
If the Bruins acquired Ehlers, he would be a clear option to play on a line with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha. He would also be a significant addition to their power play because of his scoring ability.
While the Bruins are interested in Ehlers, several other teams are also reportedly in the mix: the New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, Seattle Kraken, Ottawa Senators, and Nashville Predators. Thus, the Bruins have plenty of competition, and we must wait and see if they can win the sweepstakes from here.
