Bryce Young spent most of his rookie season running for his life.
That is set to change with the additions of Damien Lewis and Robert Hunt on the offensive line.
He also suffered through not having an elite wide receiver to throw to throughout the 2023 season. With Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette, that too is set to shift. And already Young is speaking to the difference he has seen with Johnson in the fold as an elite wide receiver.
“We’re an attacking offense,” Young said, via the Panthers' official team website.
Carolina didn't attack matchups with ferocity during Young's rookie season. The run game, sans Chuba Hubbard, really struggled to find an identity.
The passing game was laughably bad, with Young only throwing for 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
That stands to change with the addition of Johnson, who has the speed to get open at a moment's notice.
“Having Diontae out there, he brings another element," Canales said of the difference the 27-year-old receiver makes. "He’s special. He knows how to play the game. He’s fast. He gets it, he’s a change of pace and a little bit different than the guys that we have.”
In Young's estimation, having Johnson out there is already making a noticeable difference.
“It’s been great,” Young said of having Johnson. “It’s been great being able to throw to him, to work with him. He’s a super, super hard-working guy. Super competitive.”
