The Buffalo Bills are building a balanced, explosive offense. We know who Josh Allen is, and the level of dominance that he's capable of putting on the field each and every game, but it's the running game that's stopping defenses from being able to pun their ears back to get after Allen.
James Cook, who entered this season primed for a breakout , is living up to any and all hopes and expectations that were placed on his shoulders, and it apparently has caught the eye of the greatest running back in Buffalo Bills franchise history, Thurman Thomas.
"You know, I think it's just getting more and more confident in himself, really, to be that guy." Thomas said about Cook. "I mean, if you take Josh [Allen] away from this offense. to me, he's the next guy up. He can catch the football, run the football, and I think he's just getting more and more comfortable and knowing that, 'You know what? Hey, I got a pretty good backup behind me also. So that brings my game up here too.' It's like, as much as I love Ray Davis, I don't want him to take away my carries too, right? So, I just think he's very comfortable in this offense now, you know.
"They're hitting on all cylinders, especially with the running, and this offensive line is like, you know, hey, we want to run the ball. We want to bounce him. And I love it, it's taking a lot of pressure off Josh. But I just think James Cook is at a level right now where, I mean, you're looking at probably another Pro Bowl for him," Thomas continued.
Cook is fresh off last Sunday's game in Seattle that saw him go for 100+ rushing yards and 2+ rushing touchdowns in a game for the first time in his career. What's arguably most impressive is that Cook was able to do that while Allen was still able to account for over 300 total yards of offense as well, showing that the Bills are capable of getting both the run and passing attack involved in a game at the same time.
Buffalo will aim to continue their balanced attack this weekend against the Miami Dolphins, where they'll look to continue to widen their lead in the AFC East.
