Buffalo Bills reserve tight end tears Achilles tendon training for 2025 season

The Buffalo Bills signed Armani Rogers to a reserve/futures contract in January to see what the former collegiate quarterback could do at training camp at tight end.

That unfortunately will not happen as the reserve tight end tore his Achilles tendon recently while training for the 2025 season. Aaron Wilson of KRPC-2 in Houston reported the news on Monday night.

Rogers, 27, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022. The former collegiate quarterback at UNLV and Ohio moved to tight end ahead of the draft at the East-West Shrine Game hoping his size (6-feet-5-inches, 225 pounds) would translate to the position. Rogers was signed by the Washington Commanders in 2022 and made the team’s initial 53-man roster that season. He would catch five passes for 64 yards as a rookie, but was placed on the injured reserve in November.

The following season, Rogers tore his Achilles tendon in a non-contact drill. He would be placed on the injured reserve and miss the entire 2023 season.

After being waived by the Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles claimed him off waivers in August of 2024. His stint in Philadelphia lasted less than one month. Last October, Rogers joined the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad. At the end of the 2024 season, Rogers opted to join the Bills on a reserve/futures contract.

Rogers has ties to the Bills. He was born in Buffalo, New York when his father, linebacker Sam Rogers, played with the Bills. Sam Rogers played for the Bills from 1994-2000 and was a PFWA All-Rookie Team member in 1994.
