Rumours around the Flyers and Sabres trading are gaining steam.
It has been circulating the Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres may become trading partners, and insiders report they are looking for veterans to compliment their younger stars.
It seems the Sabres are not doing a full rebuild yet despite having little-to-no-chance at the playoffs, but are just looking to upgrade their team a bit to become a contender again.
"I wonder about a team like the Buffalo Sabres for Scott Laughton. Again, maybe the offseason, but that's probably a team that's looking for a little bit more snarl and some veteran presence," hockey insider Jeff Marek said.
Marek's podcast, 32 Thoughts: The Podcast is broadcast on Sportsnet.
The 29-year-old Scott Laughton would fit the bill as a seasoned vet. He has done decently well this season, with seven goals and 16 assists. He also notched a 43-point season last year.
He and fellow Philly defensemen Sean Walker and Nick Seeler have all been big in trade talks, and all are on TSNs 2024 Trade Bait List, with Laughton sitting at fourth-highest.
Laughton is a fiesty and aggressive player. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 lbs - he's not afraid to throw the body as his 98 hits this season can attest to. He's averaging 1.81 hits per game across the whole 2023-24 season.
The Hockey News' Michael Augello reported that Sportsology's Russ Cohen saw a Sabres scout at the Feb. 10 game between the Flyers and the Seattle Kraken. Cohen also mentioned that Walker could also fit the bill for the Sabres as a seasoned vet.
"I can see the Sabres looking at Walker, Laughton and Zamula. More would be involved for sure." Cohen said on X.
