"Buffalo Sabres Tie Byram Down & Invest in Future Goaltending"

   

Three Buffalo Sabres prospects helped Team USA complete the World Junior Summer Showcase on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Canada defeated the United States, 6-2, in the final game of the tournament. The prospects who played for Team USA were: Luke Osburn, a defenseman who will be a freshman at Wisconsin this fall; Brodie Ziemer, a forward from the University of Minnesota; and Adam Kleber, a defenseman from Minnesota Duluth.

Osburn, a fourth-round pick by the Sabres in 2024, had a goal and two assists in three games – two for USA’s White team (one goal, one assist) and one for Team USA.

Defenseman Luke Osburn was one of three Sabres prospects who played for Team USA in the World Junior Summer Showcase. 

Ziemer, a third-round pick by the Sabres in 2024, did not play for Team USA on Saturday against Canada. He scored a goal with two assists in three games – two games for USA's White team and one for Team USA’s combined team.

Kleber, a second-round pick by the Sabres in 2024, played two games for USA’s Blue team and two for Team USA, and did not register a point.

The tournament included the United States, Finland, Sweden and Canada, and is regarded as an evaluation for national teams that will participate in the IIHF World Junior Championship, which is scheduled for Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

 

Sweden and Finland finished 4-1 in the tournament, and Sweden had a goal differential of plus-9 to Finland’s plus-6.

Team USA White was 1-1, Team USA Blue was 0-2 and Team USA was 0-3.

Sweden forward Jack Berglund and Finland forward Aatos Koivu, the son of former Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu, led the tournament with seven points each.
