Burzek Separated in Chicago P.D.’s Most Dangerous Case Yet—Will They Survive?

Wearing blue, and being known as one of Chicago's finest, is a job that brings with it constant danger on a day-to-day basis for the men and women of Chicago P.D. For those who serve in Intelligence under the guidance of Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), their danger levels are higher than the average officer on the street. And those levels are about to spike in Season 12, Episode 18, "Black Ice," as the team tackles a sinister case. "Ruzek witnesses a tragic accident on an icy bridge, leading Intelligence into a dark, sinister case involving sex trafficking," reads the official logline for the episode, which airs Wednesday, May 7 on NBC.

Alongside releasing a synopsis for the upcoming episode, NBC has also shared a sneak peek, previewing the state of affairs in the latest case to land on the desk of Intelligence. The clip begins with a worried-looking Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) saying, "Those girls look younger than eighteen," as security footage shows a group of girls headed towards a parked car. Voight, soon after, announces to the team, "It's underage sex trafficking," which means it's all systems go, to bag the perpetrators. Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) seems to have deciphered the girls' location, "This warehouse. The girls will be there right now with our offender," he says. However, it'd seem like Ruzek has decided to go at it alone, as the clip sees him trapped inside alone with a suspect with the pair engaged in a physical confrontation. Trapped within, his fiancée, Burgess, is outside the door, struggling to get in and offer assistance.

Wedding Bells Are Ringing

We are just a few episodes away from the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale, and with it will come the highly anticipated Burzek wedding. While the wedding will be worth tuning in for, audiences will be forgiven for looking at what lies in the future beyond the ceremony. NBC is yet to officially renew the police procedural, but given that the show and its counterparts in the One Chicago universe have remained a ratings' juggernaut for the network, there is cause for much concern.

Given how long Burzek have kept up their will-they-won't-they dynamic. Their wedding is sure to be a high-profile party for the ages...of sorts. With other unit members like Voight, Dante Torres' (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), Kiana Cook, (Toya Turner), and perhaps even ASA Nina Chapman (Sara Bues), in attendance. Burgess and Ruzek will have a full house to celebrate their big day. There is, however, the small issue of who gets to officiate the ceremony and, their colleague, LaRoyce Hawkins, who plays Kevin Atwater, has long since thrown his hat in the ring, "I imagine Atwater, as the honorary third wheel of this relationship [between Burgess and Ruzek] for so long, would be blessed with that opportunity. It would be an honor for me to be more than a Best Man, but for me to marry [them]," he previously said.

Tune in to NBC on Wednesdays to watch new episodes of Chicago P.D. and watch "Black Ice" on May 7. You can catch up with past episodes on Peacock.
