The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that Cam Abbott has been hired as the new head coach of the Chicago Wolves, the 14th head coach in Chicago's franchise history.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Cam to our organization," said Hurricanes assistant general manager Darren Yorke, who was running the hiring process. "He brings a long history of excellence in developing NHL stars. Cam’s meticulous attention to detail, clear communication and ability to inspire and motivate his teams to achieve success make him the perfect fit for our organization.”
Abbott, 40, was most recently the head coach of Rogle BK in the SHL from 2017 to 2023.
He was named SHL Coach of the Year in 2021-22 after leading Rogle BK to a first place regular-season finish and winning the Champions Hockey League, a tournament that includes the top teams from six different leagues across Europe, for the first time in franchise history.
Abbott also has a twin brother, Chris, who was the general manager of Rogle BK when his brother was the coach but he now is the GM of HV71 of the SHL.
The Hurricanes and Wolves reconciled after one year apart, signing a three-year affiliate agreement in May of this year.
Along with that agreement, the Hurricanes gained full control of all hockey-related operations allowing them the right to fully implement their own staff.
