Canadiens’ Cole Caufield is on pace for 60 goals – how close will he get?

Montreal Canadiens’ forward Cole Caufield is finding the back of the net at an impressive pace this season.

Through his first 16 games this year, Caufield has scored 12 times and is on pace for 60 goals, which would shatter his previous career high of 28. Caufield’s shooting percentage is off the charts so far this season, as he’s lighting the lamp at a stellar 29.3% efficiency rating.

While the Canadiens are struggling out of the gates, posting a 5-9-2 through their first 16 contests, Caufield’s development continues to be a bright spot for the organization.

On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed Caufield’s hot start, and just how many goals they could see from the Canadiens’ sniper this season.

Yaremchuk: Let’s go to another goal scorer, Cole Caufield. We talked at the beginning of the year if this was a guy who has 50-goal potential. Well, he’s on pace for 60. Frank, he’s gonna get 60, I think he will do it, this is not a fluke, 1-to-10, where are you?

Seravalli: Its a 7. Look, Caufield is, you’re talking to one of the leaders of the ‘Cole Caufield Fan Club’, and he is a very special player who is having a good year. Also, he was out there yesterday saying he’s need to shoot the puck more, which I was like yes, I love hearing that from a goal scorer. That said, his last three seasons 28, 26, 23, and I know there’s a big variance in games played. Last year, 82 games – 28 goals. Getting to 45 would be a very impressive accomplishment this year. 60 is not happening.

Yaremchuk: Caufield, (Mikko) Rantanen, (William) Nylander, (Leon) Draisaitl, and (Sam) Reinhart, all tied with 12 goals. Who would you put your money on, which horse would you ride with?

Seravalli: Probably Draisaitl or Rantanen.
