Canadiens Prospect Demidov Held Pointless Again in KHL Game

Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov is held pointless in his fourth KHL game of the season.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov was back in action on Thursday with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). SKA dropped their third straight contest and extended their goalless drought to two games after falling to Traktor Chelyabinsk, 3-0.

During the pregame skate, Demidov was on the fourth line, indicating his spot in the lineup for his fourth game of the season. Thus far, the 18-year-old has one point (an assist) and is plus-1.

Unfortunately, Demidov saw limited ice time in the contest. Still, several online accounts who followed the game noted that he was one of the more noticeable players in the third period, trying his best to break the SKA goalless streak.

Today's contest marked the ninth game in Demidov's KHL career, spanned the past three seasons. He's still only registered a single point.

As the debates about his future amongst the fan base in North America continue to build momentum, it appears that, for the time being, he will see limited opportunities in the KHL since he is the second-youngest skater in the lineup.

Last year in the MHL, he had 60 points in 30 games, and returning to the MHL could be an option for the former fifth-overall pick down the road.

SKA St. Petersburg returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 15, with a matchup against Lada Togliatti.
