Canadiens to Honour Shea Weber on November 16

Former Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber was recently chosen to be inducted into the Hall of Fame on November 11 and will be honoured at the Bell Centre a few days later.

On June 25, 2024 the Hockey Hall of Fame announced who would be part of the 2024 induction class. There was one former Montreal Canadiens amongst the elected member: team captain from 2018-19 season to the end of the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs, Shea Weber. When he is inducted on November 11, he will join a long list of former Canadiens players and executives.

On Monday, the Canadiens will be holding the traditional golf tournament that kicks off the season. As always, there will be a fundraising auction to benefit the Montreal Canadiens Children Foundation and it has already been put online.

One of the lot is a VIP meet-and-greet experience with Shea Weber and in its description, it says the meet-and-greet will take place on November 16, before his on-ice ceremony. On that day, the Columbus Blue Jackets will be in town. While it would have made more sense to wait for a visit from the Nashville Predators, they will only be in Montreal on December 5 and Weber might not want to make two trips out east. That way he will be inducted and honoured at the Bell Centre in the same trip.

That night, the former captain should also be added to the Canadiens Ring of Honour, as is the tradition when an alumni gets inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. The last members to join the Ring of Honour were Pierre Turgeon in 2023 and Guy Carbonneau in 2019. When Weber joins them, he will be the 61st member of the Ring of Honour.
