Real Housewives of Potomac alum Candiace Dillard Bassett has got Meghan Markle’s back against “misogynoir” attacks (misogynoir refers to the combined forces of racism and misogyny directed toward Black women).
On June 4, the Duchess of Sussex reposted a video of her and her husband dancing in the delivery room. The throwback was from four years ago as they awaited the birth of their daughter, Princess Lilibet, now 4. Obviously in the early stages of delivery, Meghan and Prince Harry danced to the viral Baby Momma Dance Song.
Basically, I’m pretty amazed by a woman who can still dance while in labor. Let’s just say, that was NOT my birth story. Surprisingly, not everyone applauded the happy couple awaiting the arrival of their second child (they also share son Archie, 6). Though Vanderpump Rules alum Katie Maloney thinks Meghan is just a loveable “dork,” many trolls think otherwise. Haters responded that the video was “fake and cringe,” imploring the couple to “make it stop.”

“No woman 9 months pregnant moves that way,” one hater wrote. “And that belly is lumpy … like a sack of jelly beans. Where is the uncomfortable mom-to-be? Because this woman has no clue what it feels like to be in labor or even induced. Induced moms are nervous about the pain!”
First of all, this wasn’t Meghan’s first baby. She knew perfectly well what was coming and was just blowing off a little steam before the real work started.
Candiace, who gave birth to her and her husband Chris Bassett’s son Jett in October 2024, called out the haters on X (formerly Twitter). “Actually, at 9 months pregnant, I was leg pressing three times my weight … and walking several miles on a treadmill,” Candiace replied. “So STFU and just say you hate that a Black woman married a white prince.”
Next she went after posters “twisting [themselves] into knots to disprove the humanity of a Black woman’s motherhood — suggesting [Meghan’s] stomach was ‘towels,’ her child an illusion, her joy a lie … I’m reminded that misogynoir has no expiration date.”
Furthermore, Candiace called out the “obsession with policing how [Black women] show up in the world … how we carry our babies, how we carry our joy, how we carry ourselves,” adding that it’s not about “truth,” but rather “control.”
“She had a baby,” she concluded. “Some of y’all need to sit with why that threatens you so much. #StandWithMeghan #BlackMothersDeserveGrace #MisogynoirIsLoud.”
