Since announcing her departure from The Real Housewives of Potomac in 2024, Candiace Dillard Bassett has welcomed a baby boy named Jett Maxwell Lee Bassett, and she's thrown herself back into her music career.
After dropping a single called "How Do You Live?" at the end of February and signing to a new label, UnitedMasters, a month prior, Candiace just revealed what's next for her with her music.
"So I am really excited about this new music, mostly because my pen is stronger. My writing has gotten so much better. I'm more confident in my writing and just the way that I emote in my writing," she explained in an exclusive chat with The Daily Dish on March 27 about working on her sophomore album. "I wrote every song on this project, which is a huge accomplishment for me."
The mom of one teased that her new music is a "long, far cry" from her first album, Deep Space.
"I was really nervous about putting myself out there and being vulnerable as a writer. I'd never written whole songs before Deep Space," she continued. "And it was scary to step out and put yourself out there with music or anything. Writing a book, writing music, acting, just showing up is challenging and it can be scary. So I was really nervous."
When it came time for Candiace to record her new songs, she felt more confident in herself and her abilities. "With this go-around, I came into the studio. I knew what I wanted to write about. I knew who I wanted to talk about. I knew how I wanted to talk my s--t cause I talked too much s--t about the project. And I felt really good about it. I'm also more vulnerable, I think, in this project."
After going through some growing pains with Deep Space, Candiace feels much "more ready" this time around.
"I'm ready to tour. I'm ready to perform. I'm ready to create more amazing visuals, which we're working on right now," she added. "I'm ready to release my next single, which is coming very soon. So I'm ready for everything."
Candiace Dillard Bassett reveals the title of her next single
The RHOP alum opened up about her upcoming single: "I can tell you it's called 'If Only,'" she said to us.
"You might recognize some of the melody," she continued. "As a new artist, I was really intentional about not sampling or using what's called interpolations because I kind of wanted to just establish my sound and me without other influences. But when I heard this track and we started writing to it in the studio, I was just like, 'Ooh, I need this.' And then when I was writing to it, the lyrics are very much about a situationship, which is another song that I have, that a lot of people can relate to and being kind of like tied up with f--k boys."
Candiace didn't share which song she sampled from, but she further teased what it's about. "So 'If Only' is kind of a warning. It's kind of like a looking at this man cause he tried me," she concluded.
