David Warner’s international career came to a sad end this week.
Candice Warner has led the tributes for husband David after his international career came to an end this week.
Warner could only watch on as Afghanistan’s thrilling win over Bangladesh sealed Australia’s shock exit at the T20 World Cup.
The dramatic result brought the final curtain down on Warner’s 383-game international career.
The 37-year-old finished up as an ODI player last November and wrapped up in the Test arena in January, with T20s the last domino to fall.
Warner raised the bat for two 50s at the World Cup but would last just six balls in his final match in Australian colours on Monday local time (Tuesday AEST) against India.
Wife Candice paid a special tribute to her husband on Instagram.
“Congratulations @davidwarner31 on one of the best international cricket careers we have ever seen for our country. To have had a front row seat has been a privilege. We will miss seeing you play for Australia but we are so excited to have you home more. Love you,” she wrote.
Warner was somewhat of a polarising figure during his time in Australian colours, but Candice was quick to remind the world of his achievements.
“In case you forgot ... FACTS,” she continued.
“Only Australian person to have played 100 games across all 3 formats. 3rd player ever in the world.
“49 International centuries across 3 formats (2nd only to Ricky Ponting)
“Most international centuries for an opener ever.
“18995 combined international runs (2nd only to Ricky Ponting)
“2x ODI World Cup Champion. 1x T20 World Cup Champion. 1x World Cup Player of the tournament. 1x Test Championship. 3x Allan Border medal winner.
“Highest test score 335 not out.”
Warner left a comment in response to the heartwarming post.
“Thanks for all your support and it would not be possible without it,” he said.
Teammate and close friend Usman Khawaja also paid tribute with a lengthy social media post.
“Well done @davidwarner31 on an amazing international career. Love your fight and resilience. Can’t believe that kid became a man, then a husband and eventually a father 😂. I think the next half of your journey will be even more entertaining to watch!” He wrote.
“You don’t know what you’ve lost till it’s gone. I think people will start realising soon enough.”
