Canucks Forward and Former Maple Leafs Prospect Dakota Joshua Reveals Testicular Cancer Diagnosis - Yahoo Sports

Vancouver Canucks forward and former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Dakota Joshua will miss the start of training camp after revealing that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and had a tumor removed from one of his testicles.

This summer, I felt a lump on one of my testicles that doctors would later diagnose as testicular cancer,” Joshua said through a team statement. “This news was obviously scary to hear, but thankfully, doctors were able to successfully remove the tumor.”

Joshua is continuing to heal from the procedure and encouraged men to get checked regularly for testicular cancer.

The 28-year-old Joshua is coming off his best season in the NHL scoring 18 goals and 14 assists in 63 games with Vancouver. He was rewarded with a new four-year contract worth $13 million, just days before he was set to test the free agent market.

Joshua was selected by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round (128th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft but chose not to sign because he didn’t see a path to the NHL with the club given Toronto’s depth in forwards prospects at the time.

The Leafs were one of the team’s eyeing Joshua this summer before he ended up re-signing in Vancouver.

We at The Hockey News - Toronto wish Joshua a speedy recovery.
