American Idol winner-turner-judge and country superstar Carrie Underwood returned to the Grand Ole Opry on Tuesday night (June 3) to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her debut album Some Hearts. The Opry is also celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and has been inviting back all manner of country music legends to perform throughout the year.
On Tuesday, Underwood performed a bunch of her greatest hits, including four tracks from Some Hearts — the title track, "Lessons Learned," "Before He Cheats" and "Starts With Goodbye," all of which fans thought sounded just as good 20 years later.
Underwood opened the show with "Good Girl," you can see the video here. She then went into "Before He Cheats" and "I Told You So," her beautiful cover of the 1987 Randy Travis hit that she sang with Travis on American Idol 16 years ago.
Later, she joined worship artist Ben Fuller on stage for one of his songs, which had one fan saying she was "brought to tears."
"Brought to tears and surprised to see @Ben Fuller Official at the @GrandOleOpry along with Carrie Underwood praising and worshipping together! I found Ben on TikTok, and his music has moved me closer to Jesus! I’m amazed how an audience can raise their hands to other artists yet have trouble doing the same with Christian artists, but this girl - ME - was raising her hands and worshipping tonight! #christiantiktok #worship #raiseyourhand," wrote the fan on her TikTok video of the performance.
On the "Some Hearts" video, fans were also effusive in their praise for Underwood, with one writing, "There is nothing anyone can say or do to make me ever hate Carrie Underwood. She is truly a gift from God."
Another wrote, "She just keeps getting better and better!! Her recent 'How Great Thou Art' on American Idol was even better by a mile than the first time we heard it at a country award show."
"I love how she takes pride in performing the song exactly like the track. That song is a challenge to say the least, and she slayed as always 🥰," wrote a third fan, to which the video creator replied, "She sounded so dang good today! I was not ok after she did some hearts."
