Cedrick Wilson has a chance to put everyone on notice in first year with the Saints

Not much has been made about Cedrick Wilson signing with the New Orleans Saints, so the veteran receiver has a chance to catch people by surprise.

The New Orleans Saints made quite a few free agency signings this year but the moves haven’t really been talked about. The Chase Young signing generated headlines, and the addition of Willie Gay created a little buzz, but other than that, it’s been crickets. To be fair, the Saints didn’t have many moves that could be deemed a big splash, but that doesn’t mean the new players won’t be impactful.

One new addition that has been incredibly overlooked is veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson. Back in March, Wilson signed a two-year contract with the Saints. While it wasn’t a big move, considering what Wilson has done in this league, and New Orleans’ wide receiver room, it could end up being a productive acquisition.

Wilson has been in the league since being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2018 Draft. He spent four seasons with the Cowboys and two with the Miami Dolphins before coming to New Orleans. He hasn’t been a star receiver, but he’s definitely been a nice contributor. Playing in 68 games in his career, Wilson has caught 101 passes for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Those numbers include a 2021 season in Dallas when Wilson caught 45 passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns. Most recently, in 2023, he caught 22 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns in a loaded Dolphins offense.

In New Orleans, as the team prepares for the 2024 season, Chris Olave is the clear No. 1 receiver and Rashid Shaheed is expected to he the No. 2. All offseason, there have been discussions about who will emerge as the team’s No. 3. A.T. Perry, who flashed great potential as a rookie last season, seems to be a likely option, and rookie Bub Means has some promise as well. However, fans shouldn’t be surprised if the veteran Cedrick Wilson establishes himself as WR3 for the Saints.
