Chance Is Gone… and So Is One of Y&R’s Biggest Wasted Talents

Chance Chancellor went out a hero on The Young and the Restless, risking his own life to save Cane and taking a bullet while struggling with Carter for his gun. In the process, the Genoa City cop is dead, but actor Conner Floyd deserved better.

Chance: Always on the Sidelines

Floyd, who’d played Chance since 2021, was one of many in a long revolving door of actors hired to play the good guy character. After taking over the role, he had a succession of stop-and-start storylines, the show never quite figuring out how to use him to his full potential.

During Floyd’s time on Y&R, Chance spent most of his time on the sidelines, only being brought to the forefront when there was a crime to solve. He was on the scene to investigate Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) “death,” Heather’s (Vail Bloom) murder, and, lastly, Damian’s (Jermaine Rivers) horrific demise. Other than that, poor Chance always seemed to be a character on the outside looking in.

Chance’s Career Switch

For a brief period in 2024, the show’s writers decided to have Chance change career paths. After being seriously wounded in the line of duty, he left the police department to appease his mother Nina (Tricia Cast) and play it safe. He turned to the corporate world, working as part of the management team at Chancellor-Winters.

Unfortunately, all Chance got to do was referee Devon and Billy (Jason Thompson), who were vying for control of the company. The ho-hum move turned out to be a major bust, and the character eventually returned to his calling, police work.

Chance Was Loser in Love

The character never fared any better on the romantic front, either. Shortly after marrying Abby (Melissa Ordway), she cheated on him with Devon (Bryton James), putting an abrupt end to their happy union. A brief fling with Sharon (Sharon Case) eventually followed, but the pair always seemed a mismatch from the get-go.

There was such promise when he began a new relationship with Summer (Allison Lanier), a romance built on the supportive friendship that the pair had forged. Plus, Floyd and Lanier shared such a sweet, quirky chemistry that it seemed destined for success. That is, until the writers put the kibosh on it and suddenly had her pining over her ex-husband, Kyle (Michael Mealor). Once again, the unlucky-in-love Chance was alone.

Chance Got No Respect

Poor Chance never seemed to get any respect from the Y&R brass, despite being a legacy character and a member of the once prestigious Chancellor family. No matter what, Floyd always gave the Genoa City cop his all and made him one of the show’s most likable characters.

Fortunately, the actor has already moved on and landed the front burner role of Chad DiMera on Days of our Liveswhere he’ll hopefully get to thrive as the leading man he was never given a chance to be at Y&R.
